What to do all day?

Okay...enough already! I have only been here 2 full days...and I'm already bored! There's nothing to do but eat, sleep and sit on the beach...unless you want to spend a bunch of $$ taking dive trips or boat rides out to see manatees and stuff. I must've walked miles today just doing laps up the beach and then cut over a block to the main drag and walk down it and then go aother block in and back up. I'm just not used to the whole "laid back" thing yet. I am going to check out of my hotel tomorrow and take the water taxi over to Caye Caulker for the next 5 days. I hear it is MORE laid back over there. So...I need to get lessons on how to be laid back to the point of being comatose. I really can't imagine being MORE laid back. I have been switching between napping, swimming, reading in the shade and lounging on the beach....not nessesarily in that order. I usually hang out with a Canadian couple on the beach. I tease them relentlessly when they say "aboot" and "Going ooot to eat". They work on an oil field in the far northern part of the Northwestern Territories...where they only get 4 hours of sunlight a day! I also had dinner these last 2 nights with 2 18 yr old high school seniors from Ventura...they are very cool kids...mature, polite and talkative. They are like the poster kids for "All American SoCal Pinup Couple"...The boy (I am bad with remembering names!) is an Offensive Tackle for a powerhouse football program. He is 6'3", 225 lbs, super buff, debating whether to take his scholorship offers from Cal Poly or Redlands...She is right out of some MTV reality show, waify thin with blinging diamods in her ears and her mom's credit card constantly in hand. Strangely...he has a girlfriend and she has a boyfriend back home, who both were "fine" with them coming to Belize together...yeah...soooo...I'm not really sure how they swung that.
Last night I got a little too mixed up with some shady local rasta kids...and ended up breaking up a fight between one of them and a bartender. They showed me around and of course tried their best to sell me assorted drugs and whatnot. I think they expected to get money out of me or something...they ended up disappointed at the end of the night...but HEY, they got to hang out with ME all night...so I'd say they got a great deal. We were sitting on a picnic table at a little park on the beach under the full moon when I looked at my watch and saw it was almost 3am...so I bid them farewell and retired to my little cave at Ruby's Hotel. Of course when asked throughout the evening where I was staying I would give the name of a hotel further up the beach. I even gave them a fake name...as I am SURE they did to me. They were nice guys...but they are proffessionals here. They see a hundred guys like me and try to hustle them. I held my own against them and was ju-u-u-ust aggressive enough physically with them enough to where I felt secure that they weren't going to try to rob me or anything...you know....like suprise headlocks and chest bumps and other acts of "Alpha Male-ism". The biggest of them wasn't more than 140 lbs...so I threw my weight around just so there weren't any crazy ideas. It was a lot of fun. I saw them today during my walks and they all hollered at me from the corner..."Hey Big Man!".
Yes....here I am "Big Man"...gre-e-e-e-at....
Keep those comments coming! I love 'em.
The next post will be from Caye Caulker....farewell Ambergris Caye!

Jump the bouncer...you traveled all the way to Belize to almost get in a fight? Hell, you could do that down at the Blue.

Even after winning the weight loss contest, you are still The Big Man! Ha! Sounds like you are having quite a rowdy adventure. Maybe that's what happens with all that lying around! Nothing to do but sun tan, look at manatees, and be rowdy!

I was afraid you might get a little bored, that's why I gave you so many books to take with you.

Even if it's mellow - remember to enjoy it! It's such a special experience you're having, so be sure to appreciate it!! Nothing wrong with snorkeling and eating fruit and doing the backstroke all day. :)

Mom is right here next to me, and she says: Be sure to put on sunscreen! :)

She just came to my yoga class tonight, and then she came over for a little fun-time hangout. She's a bit pooped out after having CW for 3 days! So now we are veggin'.

We're planning our Easter get together. Should be fun. Nothing fancy, just the usual suspects and an easter egg hunt for the little guy. I know we'll all be missing you!

Lots of love & hope that Caye Caulker is a good time!

Hi Jer

You are such a descriptive writer! Whether describing being bored or fending off the local hoodlums -- it's all YOU. I do have a suggestion (of course): Have some of your acquaintances take photos of you!! Inquiring minds want to see what you're up to.

By the way, when Christopher was staying with us I got out a world map so I could show him where Belize is. We looked up Belize, Guatamala, Fresno, Japan, India and San Francisco (closest thing we could find to Santa Cruz.) He also wanted to see where "the place was that we took two planes to get to. It started with A." (Arizona) Then we compared the distance from SF to Arizona and SF to Belize, so he figured it was a VERY long flight you took.

Well I LOVE your messages. Keep em coming, and we'll do the same.
XO Mom

Oh I know that you know your latest blog makes me nervous. Sounds like you are meeting some interesting folks down there. We saw some interesting folks in Fresno, but we as a group of baseball moms felt we could handle anything that came our way, especially after the night in the Fresno “Mexican” joint drinking margaritas.

We really miss you here. Not to mention, Lost is just not the same without you complaining about all the commercials.

Hope to hear from you soon.

Love you

Hey Big Man -- I love this stuff. We thought we were super-laid back here in SC, but these Cayes have set a new level of excellence. So far the locals seem to be predatory while the other tourists are more interesting. Have you seen any weird animals or plants (other than the eel stuff)?

After I write this I will try to find a map of Belize on the net so
we can track your coordinates.

More later,

Dad

J "Mr. Social Butterfly" Jump!!!
I miss you man. My cubicle is just not the same without us groundhogs popping up at random to loudly proclaim our feelings on such subjects as the amazing wonderful mysterious ways of our current administration or ; "Dude, listen to how heavy these guys are! Man, they're so good. Holy Crap, that riff is Super Shredding! Yeah man, Epic."

**Very Important**
Please remember for your own safety and sanity that the local twang twang of the shady rasta kids Dads "laid back" reggae band at "Crazy Canucks" is not going to be enough for you as you adjust to this new and weird world known as "Vacation". To remedy this I suggest a bottle of the local rum the next time your hangin' tough and causing havoc to the surrounding architecture, as you should, with the "British Military Lads" to insert a copy of Slayer's "Reign In Blood" or "South of Heaven" at any given random establishment and let the science experiment begin. Get the Mosh Pit going and watch the whole town get caught up in the newest dance craze known as "The Mosh"! You'll be responsible for a new musical social revolution! The Cayes will never be the same! Bring on the "Alpha Male-ism"! Uggh, what the Hell am I babbling about? So bored in Campbell without you Hommie. Rainmaker is definitely not the same when your gone. Next time, I'm coming with you.

Keep the post coming and watch out for the darts that shot out of the walls when you get to the ruins.

Have Fun, Safe Travels Brother,
Hector

What's up "Big Man". I am just sitting here watching survivor, thinking of you and checking out your blog...great stuff. I must say, if I was in a tropical place with warm water and nothing to do but read, swim, eat, play, meet others wondering the world....I would be in HEAVEN. Enjoy it while you can and do what you set out to do....breath. Keep it real, be safe and have a tropical EASTER.

Beers,
Scott
